South Island Brain Bee 2009

There is something about Brain Bee that makes it snow in Dunedin.

Cold winters day at Otago University campus

And it did it again this year, June 16, the day of Round 2, saw most of the Dunedin roads and all High Schools closed by snow. But the Brain Bee will go on! From our original 100 participants we were down to a hardy 45 but they had come from all over the South Island; Nelson, Kaikoura, Christchurch, Queenstown and even Dunedin.

We did not let low numbers or low temperatures prevent the competition from hotting up. All our students performed with enough enthusiasm and energy to make us proud of them.

There were of course winners, with an outstanding performance from Riccarton High School who secured both the top team and first and second placed individuals.

On behalf of the Otago/Southlands Brain Bee Committee I would like to thank all our 2009 participants, both students and teachers, we had a great day, hope you did to.
