NZ Brain Bee Challenge trophy

The annual North Island Brain Bee Challenge was held on Wednesday at the Grafton Campus, this year featuring 170 Year Eleven contestants from 45 North Island high schools.

Massey High School student Nicholas Kondal emerged the clear winner of the individual section of the neuroscience-based outreach, while top place among the teams was taken out by the team from Mt Roskill Grammar.

Attending for the eighth year in a row (from eight runnings), Mt Roskill Grammar are clearly becoming aware of what it takes to win the Brain Bee and their team headed off the girls from Westlake Girls High, with individual winner Nicholas Kondal and his team from Massey High School finishing in third place.

Without their ongoing and very generous support we could do only half of what we achieve during the course of the day.

The Centre for Brain Research has matched the Australasian Neuroscience Society in funding the National finals that take place in conjunction with the ANS Annual Conference and The Freemasons Roskill Foundation provides the funding necessary to get our National winner and their parent/guardian to the International Brain Competition which this year is in Vienna.

We are so fortunate to have such loyal supporters. And finally but by no means least a big thank you to the teachers and parents who have encouraged and supported the students in their preparation for the competition and on the day.

Without your involvement we simply could not run this event; you are a critical part of the success of Brain Bee.
